19 July 1999 Davy Jones redux Did it again Went to see Davy on Saturday night. After getting home at 1:30 that morning and going to work, Laura picked me up at noonish, and we headed back to the casino, with a stop at Wolfe Camera to get 8x10 blowups of photos she'd taken at a previous show. The 5 hour wait was pretty much a rerun of Friday--hot, exciting, a few trips into the casino proper for food, drink, bathrooms. The band got there just barely on time, and *no* Aviva! turns out her father had died and she was on a plane to L.A. to be with her family. Davy dedicated 'I'll love you forever' to her both shows. As he said "the show must go on" and they managed two brilliant show despite her absence. There were no dancing fools this time, though one couple did dance--off to the side, not obstructing anyone's view--to the afore mentioned song. Davy commented on them as they sat down-- someething to the effect of a 'grope fest' As usual, I'm not great at remembering set lists, but he did do a few of my favorites: When he does "Valerie", he randomly points at girls in the audience, doing this curvy mothion with his hand...he was looking directly at me when he did this though I'm sure it was just my imagination, Papa Jean's blues, Is you is or is you ain't my baby, Let me entertain you, Hippy hippy shake, She hangs out, both 'believer' songs, It's nice to be with you. Near the end of the second set, the band jumps into "Monkees theme"! They did about a third of the song. I couldn't believe it. I *never* thought I'd hear him sing that one! He did a lot of his usual jokes. I know they're his usual jokes, becouse Laura kept reiciting them along with him... But the highlight of the evening was after the show. We went back to the hotel, hung out in the bar--not bothering him, just sitting about 5 feet away from him (I needed a drink--and I don't drink!) having our own conversation, though we did talk briefly with Dave Alexander. At a fairly late point in the evening davy left. Laura and I went to the other end of the bar to talk with Debbie (of hercules Promotions, Davy's distributor) While we were back there, Davy came back in. A couple of girls cornered him to ask for his autograph. I wasn't going to--he was on his own time, after all, but Debbie talked me into joining them. So I walked up to him and asked: "Is it ok if I bug you as well?" He gave me a look that belied the sigh, and grinned: "I guess so" I went and got the photo Laura had blown up earlier and handed it to him. He thought it was a great shot-- commented that it made him look Elviseque, showed it to Dave & Sandy, standing nearby, and signed it. I thanked him. One of the afore mentioned girls hugged him (he looked a bit surprised) I shook his hand, saying something immensly brilliant, like: thank you. I appreciate it. Then he kissed me I honestly cannot remember if he leaned over of I did, or what, but he gave me a little peck on the lips. Talk about cloud 9! Davy Jones *kissed* me! After a while longer, Laura & I were leaving. We met Davy coming out of the bathroom. I'd stopped to look at a brochure and was laughing aat something it said: Get a free complimentary gift with $15 purchase. It was 3:00 in the morning. I'm not used to being out that late. I thought it immensly funny. As Davy passed us, I looked at him and said: "would you like a free complimentary gift?" Laura added: "with only a $15 purchse!" He looked at us as if we were a bit off. I cracked up. Then he smiled and we said goodbye. All in all, a wonderful; weekend. It'll take a few days to recover, I think. My shoulders hurt from dancing in my seat. My head hurts. My eyes are burning. I feel *great*!
