17cJuly 1999 My evening with Davy Jones Morning all! Boy am I in a good mmod! Boy, am I tired, bleary-eyed and sore. I saw Davy last night!!! Both shows were *great*. We didn't get front row (saved for VIPs) but we were in the 2nd row for the first show. Then they kicked us out of the tent (it's a sort of outdoor place) and made us get back in line for the second show. We, of course, whined ;-) The guard took pity on Laura, and seeing her '97 Monkees all-access pass andd her huge ofrficial looking camera, decided she looked enough like press to let her in the back and save us seats up front. Unfortunately, some people are not as considerate of the rules or other people as we are, and shimmied in the side entrance instead of getting in line, so we were in the third row. Still pretty darn good--though there were these two who decided it's ok to get up and dance, blocking everyone else's view. Frrr! I mean, it'sone thing if everyone is doing it, but not when you're the only one and in the *very front* It's not like there's anyone blocking their view... There's one in every crowd, I s'pose. At any rate, both shows were wonderful! He did 'Every step of the way', which I understand is a rarity. And lots of Monkees songs. Both shows were full capacity, and *loud* Even when Laura'd shout directly in my ear, I couldn't hear what she was saying! Each show lasted about an hour. After the second one, we went up to the front of the stage (Laura was trying to get Dave Alexander's attention. More on that later) The band had left the stage and were seemingly packing up. The crowd (about half, as the other half had already left) started chanting Davy! Davy! The band came back on stage, joined by Davy, who had changed his shirt (it was *soaked* after about the 2nd song--ever been outdoors in a stuffy tent in New Orleans in the middle of July?) and he did an encore --'Hippy hippy shake' All in all a much fun evening! but not quite over. Laura, a few friends and I headed over to the hotel, where I was introduced to Dave Alexander, Sandy Genaaro and Aviva. 8-) Davy passed right by us on the way to the bar--said 'hi', even! But I didn't get a chance to meet him. I might have later, but I was falling asleep, and had to work this morning. So Laura drove me home. Got home about 1:30. The weird thing is, I dreamt about *Peter* last night Go figure. Best get back to work, as Laura's picking me up at noon so we can stand in line for 5 hours and do it all again tonight .....
